Jeddah became the port for Makkah around 647 CE under the third Caliph, Uthman ibn Affan, to serve pilgrims and trade. Tradition places the resting place of Hawa (Eve) in the city, and its name is often linked to the Arabic for grandmother.
Today it is Saudi Arabia’s commercial capital on the Red Sea: the Corniche, the historic Al-Balad district, and the Jeddah Tower project. By train it is about 30 minutes from Makkah, 20 minutes from KAEC and 85 minutes from Madinah.
Why buy in Jeddah
Some clients buy in Jeddah as a base for regular visits to both Holy Cities. Others want a larger home or a stronger rental market than the central Haram zones can offer. Designated zones in Jeddah are open to non-Saudi buyers generally, subject to the same fees and registration rules.
